Our Team

Marisa Falcigno

Marisa Falcigno

Partner + Web Director

Marisa is a graphic & web designer from New Haven, CT who is currently enjoying her daily grind in Asheville, NC. Her career in graphic design began back in 1999, in what can be heralded as “the early days” of web design. As Cher was bellowing from the radio telling the world to “Believe,” Marisa was falling hopelessly in love with the new medium of web design. After spending several years working in corporate America, she realized her heart, much like Cher’s, was “moving on!” Always being drawn towards working with small businesses, non-profits and craftspeople, she decided to take a giant leap into an exciting freelance career. This change allowed her the opportunity to work with a wide variety of clients ranging from universities and festivals to local galleries and individual artists. This diversity has kept Marisa on her toes and allowed her to focus on what she loves doing most – helping others tell their story. In her “off” time she’s known to geek out over typography and the streamlined beauty of a vintage bicycle!

Shantanu Suman

Shantanu Suman

Partner + Creative Director

Shantanu is a graphic designer from India, currently working as an Assistant Professor of Art (Visual Communication) at Ball State University, Indiana. Additionally he also continues to be a Partner and Creative Director at Open Door Design Studio. After working as an art director for over six years in India, Shantanu left his job to study design. During this unanticipated adventure he found himself exploring a long buried love for the vernacular street art of India, and after much toil, made a film. Back in high school when asked about his dream job, Shantanu was the only one in a class of 35 science students to express his interest in design. And without having a proper knowledge about the various disciplines of design, it was almost an accident that led him to become a graphic designer. Shantanu was in love with design from the moment he entered the industry but had to work his socks off to be a faithful partner/designer. Before getting his M.F.A. from the University of Florida Shantanu won several national and international awards for his work in advertising. But, during his time in grad school, he realized the opportunity waiting for him to work on a subject that had suffered a lack of documentation since its inception. He traveled to India for 45 days, carried out extensive research and collaborated with friends to make Horn Please—a documentary film that narrates the story of the Indian truck art. Occasionally you can find Shantanu wandering through a store admiring nice packaging designs. He likes samosas (but only the authentic Indian ones).

Our Work

REVIEWS

We love our clients and are happy to share some of the reviews they have given us!

  • We are thrilled with the website that ODDS designed for us! They took the time to investigate our brand and then applied their incredible hand to create for us a cohesive and beautiful site. Beyond that, they helped us organize the educational content on our e-commerce site in a way that is easily accessible for all readers. What’s so unique about ODDS is that they possess both strong technical know-how and an ability to create aesthetic brilliance—a truly rare combination in the industry. They were also extremely proactive in their approach, going way above and beyond our expectations to ensure that everything with our site was absolutely perfect. It’s so wonderful to work with people who take such incredible pride in their work. From the initial design ideas through the launching of our site, ODDS delivered in a big way. I can’t wait to work with this gifted team again.

  • It has been said that a great product sells itself. While this may be true, a great design and a distinctive look go a long way in catching the customers attention. We are extremely proud of the identity, packaging, and website provided by the designers at ODDS. In addition to the praise we often receive for our logo and branding, our online sales have increased five-fold since the redesign completed by ODDS. Thank you ODDS for the excellent work!!!

  • We could not be happier with our website created by ODDS! The site is beautiful and professional. It is easy to use and navigate, as well as containing many fun and engaging features. Our site works reflects our organization and its priorities in a succinct and modern fashion.

  • I wanted a very unusual business card design – a piece that was simple, memorable, and a conversation starter; A piece that was grounded in a beautiful scene that my wife and I love in Montana. I did not want a piece of paper to exchange information. I worked with ODDS, specifically Marisa and Shantanu. They were incredibly methodical. After a thorough “discovery” phase, they proposed several amazing alternatives. Once an alternative was chosen, they took that choice along every step of the printing process to deliver a beautiful card that has a very unique look and feel to it. Along every step of the way, they communicated constantly and nothing was left to chance. Without hesitation, I would use them again and recommend them to anyone that I know who wants to do something tasteful and well thought out. They are a great crew!

  • Our final identity design is eye catching and beautiful and has been enthusiastically praised by every customer! We will definitely use the ODDs team again!

  • My experience with ODDS has been phenomenal. They designed our logo and website. Not only was the finished product beautiful, thoughtful, and meaningful, but also the day-to-day interactions and working sessions with Marisa and Shantanu were incredibly productive and enjoyable. I will work with ODDS again when I’m in need of design work. And I’ll refer my friends to them as well. I highly recommend working with them.

  • ODDS created an amazing website for my Nepal-based novel. Both Marisa & Shantanu took the time up front to research the novel’s setting and design an author website that reflected the world depicted in the novel. They also took the time to determine which website platform and plugins would best work for my particular needs. I feel so grateful to have a website that builds upon and enhances all the work I put into my novel, and I am very proud to share my site with my readers. The unique combination of skills that they bring to the table is truly special. The whole design process was both fun and organized, and it was an amazing feeling to know that they were creating something beautiful on my behalf. I have complete confidence in their ability to deliver an amazing product, whether it be a website, a logo, or product packaging.

  • ODDS was a great experience from start to finish!  Marisa and Shantanu were extremely helpful and pleasant to work with, but most importantly they provided me with a beautiful final product. They provided me with a number of unique and beautifully designed options and worked me through the process until I settled on the one that suited me and my company the best. I can’t recommend ODDS highly enough and would use them again in a heartbeat.

    — Justin Pini, Community of Athletes —
  • I have been more than pleased with my website and its upkeep since working with ODDS. The planning was done professionally and the focus was on meeting my needs in a website. The actual design and building of the site was done in a timely way, and with a good deal of two-way communication. I have received positive feedback on my site and am proud to direct people there. ODDS has helped me to keep it fresh and up-to-date with its effortless maintenance agreement. I cannot be happier!

    — Anna Calluori Holcombe, Professor of Ceramics at University of Florida —
  • ODDS has done everything from label design to web design for our company in the last 2.5 years, and we have always been very pleased with the quality of their work, communication, and professionalism. We owe much of our brand growth/recognition to the amazing design work that ODDS has done for us. The labels they designed for our line of naturally fermented sauerkrauts are exactly what we were looking for, without even knowing it! Their eye-popping color and rich designs turn heads and get compliments daily. Beyond the designs, Marisa and Shantanu are excellent communicators, clearly conveying expectations, and keeping us on task during projects with helpful calls and reminder emails. They are also extremely adaptable and flexible, handling project or deadline adjustments with grace and professionalism. We could not be happier with our relationship with ODDS over the last couple of years, and we look forward to working with them into the future.
