Partner + Web Director
Marisa is a graphic & web designer from New Haven, CT who is currently enjoying her daily grind in Asheville, NC. Her career in graphic design began back in 1999, in what can be heralded as “the early days” of web design. As Cher was bellowing from the radio telling the world to “Believe,” Marisa was falling hopelessly in love with the new medium of web design. After spending several years working in corporate America, she realized her heart, much like Cher’s, was “moving on!” Always being drawn towards working with small businesses, non-profits and craftspeople, she decided to take a giant leap into an exciting freelance career. This change allowed her the opportunity to work with a wide variety of clients ranging from universities and festivals to local galleries and individual artists. This diversity has kept Marisa on her toes and allowed her to focus on what she loves doing most – helping others tell their story. In her “off” time she’s known to geek out over typography and the streamlined beauty of a vintage bicycle!
Partner + Creative Director
Shantanu is a graphic designer from India, currently working as an Assistant Professor of Art (Visual Communication) at Ball State University, Indiana. Additionally he also continues to be a Partner and Creative Director at Open Door Design Studio. After working as an art director for over six years in India, Shantanu left his job to study design. During this unanticipated adventure he found himself exploring a long buried love for the vernacular street art of India, and after much toil, made a film. Back in high school when asked about his dream job, Shantanu was the only one in a class of 35 science students to express his interest in design. And without having a proper knowledge about the various disciplines of design, it was almost an accident that led him to become a graphic designer. Shantanu was in love with design from the moment he entered the industry but had to work his socks off to be a faithful partner/designer. Before getting his M.F.A. from the University of Florida Shantanu won several national and international awards for his work in advertising. But, during his time in grad school, he realized the opportunity waiting for him to work on a subject that had suffered a lack of documentation since its inception. He traveled to India for 45 days, carried out extensive research and collaborated with friends to make Horn Please—a documentary film that narrates the story of the Indian truck art. Occasionally you can find Shantanu wandering through a store admiring nice packaging designs. He likes samosas (but only the authentic Indian ones).
