Open Door Design Studio collaborated with Tristan Butterfield, Global Creative Director at Kohler, to create intricate Indian trelliswork archways and Indian inspired truck graphics for the Kohler Scalamandré window display. The work was a part of the La Cienega Design Quarter “Legends” event held May 7-9, 2014 in Los Angeles.
The event was a grand success and we couldn’t have explained it better than Kohler:
“Scalamandré, America’s renowned purveyor of luxury fabrics, wall coverings and trim, and Kohler, a global leader in kitchen and bath design, are teaming up to present the extraordinary designs of Tristan Butterfield, Kohler’s global creative director, in lavish window vignettes as part of the LCDQ’s Legends of La Cienega – Novel Interiors market event in Los Angeles.
Legends is a 3-day celebration of design that brings together the top editors of the nation’s shelter magazines with VIPs and tastemakers from the worlds of interior design, architecture, décor, art and fashion. Each year, Legends embraces an overarching theme that is expressed in the LCDQ showroom and shop window displays orchestrated by designers from around the world. The theme for 2014 is Novel Interiors: Storytelling by Design.
Inspired by E. M. Forster’s epic novel A Passage to India, British-born Butterfield has drawn upon his own extensive travels to India to create lush, dreamlike compositions that combine exquisite Scalamandré textiles and trims with key pieces from Kohler’s new Tailored Vanity Collection. Exotic paisleys, dramatic geometrics and color-saturated solids and textures play off warm woods, stone and sculptural fittings to make the ultimate statement in global chic. This installation will also celebrate the Kohler Artist Editions collection that provides gallery-worthy bathroom centerpieces.”
